Asian Stocks Slip after Better Trading Yesterday

Asian Stocks Slip after Better Trading Yesterday

Cutting the losses in the last four days, yesterday Asian stocks were on a bright trade; however, that mood did not last long as today they fell to an extent. The MSCI Asia Pacific Index (TPX) slid 0.5 percent as of 1:56 p.m. in Tokyo. Following the trend even Japan’s Topix declined 0.4 percent and Standard & Poor’s 500 Index futures dropped 0.1 percent.

Amidst the expectations that U.S. growth data today and payrolls figures tomorrow may determine the mood of the Federal Reserve policy makers, Asian stock trading started with caution. According to some estimates the U.S. economy probably grew at a 2 percent annualized rate in the third quarter; however, this number is not enough for the Fed to taper its stimulus.

Particularly, when the unemployment rate increased to 7.3 percent from 7.2 percent in the previous month, William English, head of the Fed’s Division of Monetary Affairs, believes that the strategy of not raising interest rates is expected.

Twitter IPO Begins but Brings Bad Trade for Facebook and LinkedIn

Twitter Inc. raised $1.82 billion in its initial public offering which in fact is the largest IPO by a technology company since Facebook Inc.’s that took place in the last year. However, this news brought in negative trade for two other social networking companies Facebook and LinkedIn which slipped Wednesday, may be investors are willing to buy Twitter shares now than these two.

Reportedly, Twitter Inc. sold 70 million shares at $26 each. Earlier it offered the shares for $23 to $25. Earlier, while Facebook shed 2% to close at $49.12, LinkedIn declined 1.7% to close at $220.78. These two companies, particularly, Facebook has been faring better recently whose stocks gained strength after and trading close to $50.

Some other social network sites too declined in yesterday’s trading. Whereas shares of Groupon declined 2.7% to close at $10.01, Yelp was down by 6.4% to close at $66.61. Following the trend Zynga Inc. shed 2.5% to close at $3.71 amidst the news that Twitter is faring better and its shares are expected to rise even more.

Mixed Reactions to Twitter IPO

According to various reports reactions on Twitter’s IPO debut have been mixed. Whereas some analysts are warning against too much hype, some others see a potential in its shares and suggesting for investments. Caution was obvious as the investors have already seen the Facebook fiasco.

Currency Forecast, November 6th 2013

Currency Forecast, November 6th 2013

Everyone is waiting for the ECB meeting tomorrow and the NFP number on Friday. I expect a quiet day today with small ranges.

EURHUF could be interesting again, if it should trade at 300,00 – where I like to sell some again.

EURCHF rebounded a bit and is trading around 1,2315 at the moment, but that’s not enough, as I like to sell them at 1,2340.

For today I suggest just to sit on the positions, or if you like to trade small ranges like 1,3480-1,3510 in EURUSD, 132,75-133,15 in EURJPY and 98,40-98,70 in USDJPY for example.

Tomorrow will be the important day, so let’s wait until tomorrow.

Good luck,

Current trades, positions and levels:

For info how the model works: The P/L is always calculated with the size of 1. So if the position is 1 and it makes a profit of 100 pips, the P/L would be +100 pips. If the position is 2 and it makes a profit of 100 pips, the P/L would be +200 pips of course – it is always calculated with the position size of 1. The position could go up to 3, in case the system has a strong view.

Australia Facing Unemployment Growth

Australia Facing Unemployment Growth

The recent release from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) says that the unemployment rate increased by less than 0.1 percentage points to 5.8 percent. Now it looks that Australia’s October jobs report is a major disappointment for the recently elected government of the country which came to the power after dethroning the Labor Party.

Though it is a marginal increase, Australia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate that increased 0.1 percent in October is definitely a concern for Tony Abbott who came to power promising to correct the national economy. According to ABS on a seasonally adjusted basis, the unemployment increased by 9,100 people to 709,300 in October.

The national body for data collection, ABS also shows that the number of people employed increased by 1,100 to 11,639,200 in October which is quite insignificant when compared with the number of unemployed. Additionally, the increase in employment is due to part-time employers, which went up 28,900 to 3,544,500 which cannot be considered a good indication.

The ABS report clears that the increase in total employment was mainly driven by an increase in male part-time employment. Interestingly, the full-time employment has gone down drastically wherein 27,900 people lost their full time job and now only 8,094,700 have full time employment. Observers believe that trend shows that people are opting for part-time jobs as they do not have a full-time job.

This is not a good indication for a better employment scenario. In fact, the ABS monthly seasonally adjusted aggregate hours worked series shows that there has been an increase in October where it is up by 6.2 million hours to 1,648.5 million hours; however, there is not much development in the seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate which stands at 64.8 percent in the last month.

Growth in Ageing Population Showing in the Unemployment Data

For eight months there has not been a decrease in the unemployment rate and it is still up at the current levels; it is a major issue that the government needs to address. Whatever decrease in unemployment is happening is due to retiring people. For instance, the share of the adult population over 65 has gone up to18 percent in the last decade.

Similarly, the share of the population aged 60 to 64 has also increased. These are groups that are out of the employment figures. According to some estimates the slight increase in unemployment can grow even higher if it is not tackled well.

Media Fortress Accepting Bitcoins for Its Web Hosting and Development Services

Media Fortress Accepting Bitcoins for Its Web Hosting and Development Services

Media Fortress has announced that it is one of the first Australian companies to accept Bitcoins as an alternative form of payment when customers make purchases through the website. Bitcoin is becoming popular in Australia and this company with years of experience in webhosting, domains, search engine optimization, etc. is a new addition.

Bitcoin Has Become a Popular Option among Small Size Companies

From the latest trend in the news coming over the months it looks Bitcoin is becoming popular particularly among the companies that are small in size. One major reason behind the development is that Bitcoin can be cheaper and faster over commercial payments than PayPal. It is cheaper than even Visa or MasterCard.

Then there are processing fees with all these payment methods; however, with Bitcoin, there is no need of permission to start accepting it. For small organization every penny is valuable and they cannot actually afford to pay a huge amount as processing fee.

Australia is a Popular Destination for Bitcoin second only to the U.S.

We recently reported that all-terrain vehicle makers Tomcar started accepting Bitcoin, now Media Fortress is a new addition to it. A source from the company says that offering website design to global businesses of all sizes it has built up an affluence of web development expertise that put it miles ahead of other web hosting and web development companies in Australia.

Currently trading at $260+ per coin, Bitcoins are a digital currency, or a form of electronic money which are always in news for positive and negative developments. Moreover, as these are being used as an alternative method of payment for goods and services, particularly for international transactions, these are becoming popular among international traders.

Media Fortress believes that with Bitcoin wherein there is no involvement of banks, governments, or central organizations of control, it is stepping ahead to new era of technology. Bitcoins which are quickly becoming a popular alternative form of payment, with usage skyrocketing since early 2013, the company expects that it will get new international customers.

Using Bitcoins for purchases from Media Fortress

The company admits that with Bitcoins as an alternative form of payment to PayPal and bank transfers, it will be able to cater the requirements from the clients who are located outside Australia as now they can pay without much hassle. Visiting the website customers can choose Bitcoin as a payment method instead of other options.

WTI Crude Prices Surging Ahead this Wednesday

West Texas Intermediate or WTI crude has been in the doldrums recently. Today it rebounded from the lowest level in five months amidst the news that a report is expected that will show that U.S. fuel supplies actual shrank recently and the price that went southward were excessive. Whereas futures advanced by 0.9 percent in New York, the indicators for gasoline and distillate inventories fell slightly.

Earlier we had reported the last week that West Texas Intermediate oil fell to the lowest level in more than four months when it was expected that the U.S. has huge stockpiles of crude. Then Futures in New York sank as much as 0.6 percent which contributed to the week’s 3.3 percent decline as the U.S., the world’s biggest oil consumer stockpiled huge quantities of crude. Additionally, there was a report that Libya had started its productions from the oilfields that were shut due to protests.

Amidst the reports from the Energy Information Administration that the U.S. had huge quantities of crude reserves, the crude prices went down below $95 which was the lowest since June this year. There is still not much improvement in the price levels as crude’s relative strength index is below 30 for a fourth day which again is not a bright signal for oil companies that are looking for profits from oil production.

However, WTI recorded a slight growth in its December delivery which rose as much as 88 cents to $94.25 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange; then to it is still traded at $94.16 at 9:40 a.m. London time. On the other hand, the contract dropped $1.25 to $93.37 yesterday which is the lowest from all standards since June 4 this year.

Market observers say that WTI has lost 5.4 percent in the past seven days. Its 14-day relative strength index yesterday fell to 25.9 which in fact is the lowest reading since June 2012 which can be of great trouble for oil producers. Some investors believe that crude prices are completely oversold, and people are sort of looking for the chance of a rebound within a few days.

According to the new estimates U.S. gasoline inventories probably decreased by 400,000 barrels in the week ended Nov. 1 which leaves close to 213.4 million in supplies which is the least since November last year. Similarly, distillate stockpiles that also include heating oil and diesel, in all probabilities have fallen by 1.5 million barrels to 121.2 million.

Pound got what it wanted

The British pound was hovering at its multi month low at 1.5900 till Friday, after which the bulls entered the market this week on Monday following a good improvement in the construction sector of the U.K. economy. Plus, as mentioned in our previous analysis that if the Services PMI data comes out to be impressive, then that short term gains of Monday could extend further and may take the pair further up and so it did. The Services sector expanded in the U.K. economy much better than expected in the past month, hence regaining investors’ confidence in the British pound.

After gaining 200 points in just 2 days, the GBP/USD is trading at 1.6085 in the Asian session on Wednesday, where it has completed its 50% bullish correction of the bearish move it witnessed last week. Chances are that the pair would gain around 20 points more to complete its 61.8% retracement on a Fibonacci retracement scale, and that would be the point where sellers might start entering the market.

Therefore, those who want to sell the pair can enter now or at 1.6118 and can keep a tight stop loss, but the overall trend could become bullish if the manufacturing production data for the past month comes out to be pleasing as well.

**relatedaticle**

As long as the pair is trading above 1.6051 critical level, the pair is good for buying, below this level sellers would enter more in the market.

Watch out Euro Traders

The euro made a zig zag movement on Tuesday where it is seeing its resistance level at 1.3531, breaking of which could lift the pair further up to 1.3545 and 1.3580 where sell orders might start triggering again. However, investors are eying on key economic indicators due today for the euro including European retail sales, German factory orders, and Spanish and Italian services PMI.

Stagnant Gold

Gold is stuck at the 1313 level and has been stagnant so far this week, since investors are looking forward the big data that would be released on Friday after 2 months, i.e. NFP and the U.S. unemployment. A lot depends on this data and thus could shape the short to medium term outlook for the metal. The support is still there at 1307 and 1301 levels; hence buying is safe above these levels.
